(N2005.4.5) - Schulze LiPoBalancer - available since december
The Schulze LiPoBal08 (8-cells) resp. Schulze LiPoBal14 (14-cells) is a
Balancer with newest technology. It is a genuine balancer which analyses the cells
connected to it, and matches them to each other after the first minute of charging.
The result: faster matching of the cell voltages, faster full detection, reduced heat generation.
This is a real advantage compared to the many “balancers” currently available commercially,
which in fact should be called “limiters”, as they simply limit the cell voltage to a
“Full voltage” defined by the manufacturer of the unit; in any case they often have
insufficient capacity to do the job properly.
Schulze LiPoBalancer can be connected to every Li-Poly or Li-Ion battery
from 2 cells up.
In combination with Schulze balancer cables BalCab10 resp. BalCab20
connected in series with your charge cable you can use a safety feature.
The cells will be disconnected from the charge output if the voltage of a single cell will
exceed the safety voltage level (Note: The full voltage level is a different lower voltage)
and the Schulze LiPoBalancer is not able to maintain the desired voltage.
Note: The Schulze LiPoBalancer will not be damaged (as it will happen
with insufficient designed safety circuits) when the safety monitoring acts and the
converter of the charger increases the charge voltage up to 60 volts.

(N2005.4.2) - isl 8 with background illuminated graphical display
The voltage converters are now reduced in space that they are small enough
to mount them in the isl 8 case.
Now we are able to deliver the isl 8 with a background enlighted display.
We can mount this display with backlight plus a transformer (for the backlight, which must be installed additionally) even in a limited number of items for interested customers which own elder isl 8 chargers. A condition is however that this charger does not include a melody module - because there is not enough space to mount the transformer. Years ago the transformer had been so large that they had not enough space even without the loudspeaker.

isl 8-series
On principle, all three charging outputs work with the same programs and menues.
You can charge lithium-ion and lithium-polymer cells on main battery charge output ONE and TWO
with high current and voltages up to 60 volts resp. 45 volts. Output THREE is limited to the car battery
voltage and 1,5 A (as before) and only 2 lithium cells to avoid that the charger has to send
to weiterstadt for modifications.
Also available will be fullautomatic programs for Ni-MH batteries - this means that all
maintenance programs can be used with Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries on all outputs.
An isl 8 softwareupgrade for 1 year is included within the warranty time of the
isl 8 .
For this reason, you have to send us your warranty card directly (!) after purchase.
Though we are able to say that the isl 8 can be updated only by changing an
EPROM and making some verifying measurements (also by yourself), you should send your charger to
Weiterstadt. Only in this case we can ensure that the software works with
the fitting hardware revision.
We will re-calibrate your charger because only in seldom cases the old
calibration is good enough to charge lithium cells.
Additionally we will update the hardware for more reliability (cue: product care).
The software-EPROM is of now (Shipping from 01 NOV 2004 and later)
less expensive (70.00 EUROs resp. 60.34 without V.A.T.)
and is free of charge at above mentioned conditon.
The amount for the calibration is always coupled with the recommended hardware-update for a
higher reliability. The price of the bundle (calibration/hardware-update) is 25.00 EUROs
(21.55 no V.A.T.) plus the shipping
costs and always liable to pay the costs (Hint: valid: September 2004(!))
After carrying out the EPROM UPDATE at home a warning message always appears on the display
that the charger was not calibrated in our firm.
If you make all the measurements described in chapter 34 of the operatimng instructions and you
are sure that the voltage is ok for your application then you can charge lead- or lithium batteries
at your own risk, because the charger does not refuse charging/discharging.
Hint:
The message does only NOT appear if the charger is calibrated in our firm.
The message does also not disappear when you compare the voltages with your digital voltmeter,
because we do not have any influence if you do it in correct manner or not.
Please pay by MasterCard or VisaCard (we will charge the amount at the same day we send the
parcel back to you).
For safety reasons please do NOT send us your credit card details by eMail.
Always send credit card data by fax or make a phone call resp. add the numbers
to the items to be repaired.
If there is no other way send the data in different eMails.
Please inform us about:
1) the name of the owner of the card,
2) the 16 digits of the card number (1234 5678 9012 3456),
3) the expiration date (mm/jj),
4) the 3-digit (resp. 7-digit) test number, printed on the back side of the card (xxxx 123).
Because of organizational reasons no pre-paying to our accounts is desirable - too many parcels
would remain here in our shipping department before the credit note appears on our account.

This is a panoramic LED array consisting of red LEDs, usable with 10 ... 32 cells,
designed to be mounted on the underside of the helicopter in any clearly visible position.
This alarm display is only active in heli-mode of the future-u or mcr42 controllers.
As of V. 7 software the “large” circuit boards of the future universal series controllers
feature concealed connection points for our alarm display.
We can retro-fit the connection provided that the circuit board is suitable
(or you can do it, but no guarantee claims; take care: the flight battery voltage is present at this connection).
This connection always becomes active if …
a) the motor reaches full-throttle in Heli mode (in “const” mode this means: I cannot maintain the rotational speed,
i.e.: motor + gearbox + collective pitch angle = incorrectly matched; or: battery flat, land immediately) and
b) the future detects overheating (aldis comes on at around 90°C and goes out again at around 80°C).

For the helicopter pilot we have now programmed two different versions of the speed regulation
characteristic:
Standard mode (new) and Expert mode (as previously).
In principle, Standard mode is equally suitable for hovering and 3-D flying.
The basic difference between Standard mode compared to Expert mode is its softer response to
fluctuations in rotational speed.
This makes it ideal for ...

... unfavourable gyro locations (i.e. not mounted on the tail boom), and
... use with medium-speed tail rotor servos (instead of fast / ultra-fast digital servos).
However, these characteristics make it possible that rotational speed may dip slightly if a
severe load change is encountered (collective pitch change).

Its features are similar to the well known isl 6 series, but it contains a single row display.

1-6 cells Nickel-Cadmium = 1.2 ... 7.2 V,
1-6 cells Nickel-Metallhydrid = 1.2 ... 7.2 V,
1-4 cells Lead acid = 2...8 V,
1-3 cells Lithium-Ionen = 3.6 ... 10.8 V,
1-3 cells Lithium-Mangan-Oxid (Tadiran) = 3.0 ... 9.0 V.
To charge the maximum rated cell count a 13.8 V supply voltage is necessary!
From softwareversion 7.03 (or higher) isl 5 and isl 6 charger hardware is modified
to make it possible to charge the above listed cell counts.
If you want to upgrade your elder isl 5 or isl 6, you have to ship the charger to
Weiterstadt (Germany) to modify the hardware and software!
b) The new software remembers the charging and discharging
capacity of the combination programs.

c) The new software supports the serial RS 232 port.
To read battery data on you personal computer, you need following parts:
i6-RS-schn: interface to install in isl 6 series charger
i6-RS-kab: connecting cable from Laptop/PC to charger
winsoft: pc-programm to receive, show and evaluate the battery data
i6-RS-einb: price to mount the interface in the charger
i6-RS-upgrade: package price of software, interface, cable, winsoft
and mounting of the interface into the charger.
If you want to upgrade your elder isl 5 or isl 6, you have to ship the charger to Weiterstadt (Germany) to modify the hardware and software!
December 2000 was the month for the new future items
The controller software now reflects important new developments,
and a range of new types is being introduced now that 4 Milliohm transistors are available.
The ”brush mode”, designed for controlling brushed motors, has now been removed in favour of
new features such as the motor timing adjustment facility.
The details:
December 2000:
future speed controller series for helicopters, now with revised regulatory characteristics.
With the previous software a pendulum movement of the tail boom could occur in certain cases at particular rotational speeds.
Analysis has shown that the two regulatory circuits (gyro and speed governor) could affect each other.
With the introduction of Version 5 (future 35 ... 45H) and Version 7 (future-20He) this effect has
disappeared completely in nearly all cases. You can now safely set gyro gain to a higher level.
However, this improvement has not been made at the cost of the controllers’ excellent stability of speed maintenance.
We can offer a software upgrade service for the future-Ho and -He at cost price.
future speed controller / governor series now without motor learning phase function!
We have developed what some have considered impossible:
Silky-smooth motor start - virtually as if the future were sensor-controlled.
The new software offers the biggest advantages - a real ”quantum leap” - to RC car drivers.
For this reason we can provide software upgrade service for the future-Co and -Ce and of course for other future types at cost price.
With immediate effect a special version designed for the LMH 110 helicopter is available - the future-20Le.
This type’s special features include:
fixed stick travels,
speed governing disabled at low voltage (instead of motor switched off), and, of course,
the new optimised motor start-up characteristics.
The introduction of 4 Milliohm transistors has enabled us to develop new future types.
The future-88Fo and future-88Wo are the successors to the future-90Fo and future-90Wo,
and although they are no cheaper, they are lighter and slimmer.
The new future-88Wo (heat-sink plate; no water cooling) is also available in water-cooled form as future-105Wo.
The pylon racing speed controller is now supplemented by the future-88Po, which can cope with extremely high currents.
